March 10, 2007 - We attended birthing classes at the Hancock Regional Hospital. We learned about some good informative points about preparing for birth. Mostly learned about the labor process, some massage techniques, and being on the same page with our expectations and roles for labor. Watched some disturbing video graphically depicting how gross labor is really going to be...Yikes!
February 13, 2007 - Andy felt the baby move! Due to some severe snow storms, Andy was forced to work from home. That night Andy was feeling Jacky's tummy and Harrison gave him a little kick! Also, Jacky had just begun realizing that some of the bubbles in her stomach was Harrison kicking. We treasure our first encounters with our son.
February 7, 2007 - This was the day of our ultrasound. With much anticipation we approached the appointment. Both of us tried not to have a set determined idea of the baby's gender. However, every member of both of our families, who expressed their opinion, thought it was going to be a girl. Psychologically we started thinking this way. Andy, however would unconsciously call it a him and refer to the baby as a boy when talking about it. We went in for the ultrasound and were looking at our baby!!! We could see its little body parts clearly! It was breathtaking! For thirty minutes or so the doctor measured its head, leg bones, found the four chambers of the heart and so on. All along the specialist gave us no indication whether we were going to have a girl or a boy. At one point as the doctor was looking around, we both thought we saw something that would indicate the baby was a boy. Indeed, we had seen something, and the doctor confirmed that it is most definitely a boy! Harrison James Hutton is coming June 20, 2007, as far as the ultrasound due date. The doctor wanted to keep the June 24, 2007 due date already determined as they would only change the due date when it was more than 7 days away from what was originally set.
December 11, 2006 - We were delighted to hear the heartbeat for the first time! Jacky had her second monthly appointment and the doctor was able to pick up a heartbeat until I made Jacky laugh and the baby moved.
November 20, 2006 - Almost a month later, and still a little doubt lingered as to whether the multiple pregnancy tests, which were all positive, were truly accurate without professional verification. November 20th was Jacky's first appointment at Hancock OB/GYN. Of course, it was declared that we were pregnant and 9 weeks and 1 day along. That evening I wanted to have a girl and boy name set for our child. Jacky eventually agreed that we would work out the names that night. We had already been talking about it off and on and Harrison James for a boy was quickly agreed upon. However, multiple girl names had been discussed. We eventually agreed upon Elise Rylee. The names are set!
Among our friends and family, naming the baby became a fun point of conversation. Somehow, a joke started by Andy, stuck. Bertha! The baby slowly became called Bertha as we joked and laughed with our friends. While eating out with our friends Randy and Hannah one night the name Blue was added to Bertha. Bertha Blue became the pet name for the fetus until a sex could be determined.
October 26, 2006 - Jacky is several days late on this day in October. Indeed, the test showed positive quite quickly! We are pregnant!!! In our delight we called our parents and Andy went to work and Jacky went to school. It will take a while for us to really fathom the fact that we were going to have a baby.
Jacky graduates in December of 2007. After calculations we knew we had two months to get pregnant and have the baby in the beginning of the summer so as not to conflict with Jacky's finals and give her time before going back for her last semester in August. So September 2006 comes and goes, no baby. Throughout this time we are in prayer together that if it be God's will for us to start our family now, that it would happen in these two months. One night in October, Andy was laying his hands on Jacky's belly and praying that God would give us a child. Ok, we know what you are thinking. Obviously we know that this is not how babies are made; there was more than just prayer. However, we believe that God is the Master designer of all things in this world. Andy was praying that God would give us a child, and felt a sense that He had answered our prayers. So much so, that Andy claimed confidently that we were pregnant.
